J. Michael Orange
...served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970 including a twelve-month tour of duty in Vietnam as a Section Leader of an 81mm mortar platoon.

After his discharge, Mr. Orange witnessed the events precedent to the shootings at Kent State University and actively participated in the peace movement until the War's end in 1975.  He participated in the famed 1971 march on Washington when for the first time in this country's history, veterans protested against the war they fought and threw their medals back over the Capital fence.

Since 1984, Mr. Orange has studied the War including, completing history classes at Metropolitan State University.  Annually, he volunteers as a guest lecturer for high school history and social studies classes speaking on the topic of the Vietnam War and peace movement with a focus on his own experiences and personal research.

Mr. Orange is a principal planner with over twenty-five years of experience with the Minneapolis Planning Department.  After completing four years at Borromeo High School Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Orange earned his B. A. degree from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio and his M. A. in Urban and Regional Studies from the University of Minnesota, Mankato.

Michael and his wife, Cynthia Orange, a published author and creative writing teacher, live in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Their daughter, Jessica, teaches literature and poetry at the San Francisco Institute of Art.
